%X The aim of this study is to analyze the aspects of illegal land occupation within the Pituaçu Metropolitan Park, an integral protection unit in Salvador, state capital of Bahia, considering the correlation between the occupation dynamics and the variation of the park''s boundaries. The park was created in 1973 by the State Decree No. 23.666 and its original area was approximately 660 hectares. In 2006, with the State Decree No. 10.182, the State Government changed the limits of the Park, decreasing its area to 378,03 hectares which represented about 50% of loss in the conservation unit''s territory. The last change in Pituacu Metropolitan Park''s boundaries occurred in 2013, by the State Decree No. 14.480 and delimited the new area with 392,02 hectares. The study was conducted by comparing the limits of the park established in 1973 when it was created, and the modifications made in 2006 and 2013, evaluating how these changes are related with the irregular and illegal occupation in the surroundings and inside of the park`s boundaries. To support the analysis, the legal changes of the park boundaries along the time were vectorized using QGIS and free access cloud based satellite images - available on OpenLayers plugin used in QGIS - were used to identify the illegally occupied areas in the actual time. The result obtained by overlaying all collected data showed a direct relation between the change of limits and the advancement of occupation going inside the park, mainly by precarious settlements. However, it was also possible to identify high standard houses, showing that influent people are keeping their houses irregularly.
